What are zirconium oxide ceramic balls?

Zirconium oxide balls are precision or grinding spheres made from stabilized zirconia ceramic, commonly yttria-stabilized zirconia. They combine high density, excellent fracture toughness, wear resistance and chemical stability.

Compared with alumina, zirconia generally provides greater toughness and higher grinding energy. Stabilizer system, purity and microstructure must be controlled for demanding grinding, valve and medical applications.
